چکیده

Nowadays, multidimensional Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery has raised as a powerful tool to extract physical information about the Earth surface. One of the main parameters which characterizes these multidimensional data is the complex correlation coefficient between two SAR images. It has been demonstrated, in the related literature, that this parameter can be sensible to different physical properties depending on the nature of the multidimensional SAR system. Hence, a correct estimation of it is essential. This paper focus on the estimation of the amplitude of this correlation coefficient, called coherence. A novel approach for its estimation is presented in the following, which does not present the drawbacks of classical approaches as the topography bias in interferometric applications or the loss of spatial resolution linked to the estimation due to the spatial filtering.

Estimation of Earthquake Damage Through Radar Interferometry (Case study: Bam 2003 Earthquake)

The estimate of the damage caused by the earthquake and other natural disasters in the first days after the occurrence of these events can provide a quick damages assessment and help to manage the crisis. Several methods are available to investigate the extent of earthquake’s damage. Optical remote sensing, photogrammetric methods (UAVs and LIDARs), radar interferometry (InSAR) and field observ...

Evaluation of Sentinel-1 Interferometric SAR Coherence efficiency for Land Cover Mapping

In this study, the capabilities of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) time series data and machine learning have been evaluated for land cover mapping in Iran. In this way, a time series of Sentinel-1 SAR data (including 16 SLC images with approximately 24 days time interval) from 2018 to 2020 were used for a region of Ahvaz County located in Khuzestan province. Using InSAR proces...

Preprint/Prétirage COHERENCE ESTIMATION FOR SAR IMAGERY

In dualor multiple-channel Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging modes, cross-channel correlation is a potential source of information. The sample coherence magnitude is calculated over a moving window to generate a coherence magnitude map. High resolution coherence maps may be useful to discriminate fine structures. Coarser resolution is needed for a more accurate estimation of the coherence ...

Information Mining via Coherence Estimation from Multi-look Incoherent Sar Imagery

In this work, an application of “browsing by coherence” is presented. An interferometric pair of single-look complex (SLC) ERS-1/2 Tandem images is multi-look processed and the resulting real-valued images are further compressed through a hierarchical method to yield quick-looks that may be browsed at different spatial resolutions, i.e. number of looks. Pairs of quick-look icons are utilized to...

Glacier motion estimation using SAR offset-tracking procedures

Two image-to-image patch offset techniques for estimating feature motion between satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are discussed. Intensity tracking, based on patch intensity cross-correlation optimization, and coherence tracking, based on patch coherence optimization, are used to estimate the movement of glacier surfaces between two SAR images in both slant-range and azimuth dire...
